Presenting the second of our series of mixes gearing ourselves up for Liverpool Psych Fest 2015 on 25 + 26 September. This stunning ‘Suxo Plexo Muxo’ mix has been put together for us by psychic crate digger ANDY VOTEL, one of the leading lights of the FINDERS KEEPERS label.
Finders Keepers is celebrating a decade of releasing hidden psych and folk gems from all corners of the universe by hosting a special Hocus Focus happening at this year’s festival, which will feature live performances, film and DJ sets from FK regulars, swimming in a world of visual oddness. At the past two editions of the festival, label co-founder Andy Votel has led psych revellers down some mysterious and stunning paths with his explosive DJ sets. In 2014 he helmed an 8-hour Turkish only ‘Anatolian Dynamite’ set, and led a ‘Heavy Psych Soundsystem Combustion’ set at 2013’s festival. This year the label will be out in force to celebrate 10 years of acidik archival activites as the self-professed “Accidental World Music Label”.
This ‘Suxo Plexo Muxo’ mix features a zoned out mix of Eastern European cinematic oddities, weird eye Giallo schlock, Parisian art house freak folk and a plethora underexposed and uncharted celluloid wonders from around the world. In it you can glimpse some slivers of the soundtracks that have inspired some of the live projects as part of this year’s Hocus Focus showcase. Masahiko’s ‘Belladonna Of Sadness’ makes a brief appearance, and Silver Globalist Jane Weaver will be bringing her own live soundtrack of this rare work to the FK stage this year. The 79 minute mix is spliced with regular sections from the weirdo filmic worlds of Andrzej Korzynsky, Morricone and Bruno Nicolaj, and is something to keep you on your toes.
