On Friday 4th September we got the PZYK juices going for 2015’s festival with a launch party at Bold Street Coffee. The night also marked the beginning of a month-long PZYK SKREEN exhibition in the shop, as a teasing pre-cursor to our SKREEN print world to come at the this year’s festival. Alongside some trippy PZYK design dripping off the walls – and some stills from our whacked-out line-up films – there is a teaser of some of the art to expect within the HUMAN SOUP print installation on 25 + 26 September.
Musically the night was a great footing to start this year’s event on, with PETE BASSMAN and TVAM providing the sounds, bathed under the lights of some of our trademark visuals. Manchester-based TVAM wowed the assembled PZYKonauts with his VHS-led layers of fuzz and reverb, and former Spacemen 3 bassist Pete Bassman delivered a set of cutting drone missives to close the night. The rest of the night was left in the capable hands of some DJs extraordinnaire: CLINIC got things going with an assortment of oddball variations, and BERNIE CONNOR capped things off in the perfect indian summer manner after hot-footing it back from a set at Festival No. 6.
The night also saw the debut of our new craft brew for 2015 – PZYK Diablo. A yerba maté-infused IPA made for us by the tremendous brewers at Liverpool Craft Beer Co., with a nod to the stargazing, Andean influence of our special guests from Chile at this year’s festival, from Blow Your Mind Records. The beer will be available at the festival.
