The memorably monikered GUANTANAMO BAYWATCH bring the noise from indie mecca Portland, Oregon to Camp and Furnace. Recreating the sleaze, danger and outsized personalities that permeated ‘The Devil’s Music’ during its youthful 1950s era, Guantanamo Baywatch splice the surf guitar licks of Dick Dale with The Sonics’ primitive rumble and elements from rhythm and blues and Motown.
The trio’s 2015 LP ‘Darling… It’s Too Late’ – tracked at Atlanta’s Living Room Recording (Black Lips, The Coathangers) – was praised by Paste magazine as “Your perfect summer soundtrack”. As their session for revered Seattle radio station KEXP streamed on YouTube proved, the trio are a formidable live force, with new album ‘Desert Center’ due for release in August on Suicide Squeeze records (Ty Seagall, Minus the Bear).
