2016 Festival Info

LIVERPOOL INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF PSYCHEDELIA 2016 was our fifth edition, and was our most expansive and largest festival to date. It took place over the weekend of 23 + 24 September 2016 at Camp and Furnace, Blade Factory and District. Over 60 bands played across four live performance spaces – headlined by SUPER FURRY ANIMALS, THE HORRORS and SILVER APPLES – with a stunning array of live visuals, DJs, audio and visual installations and plenty more adding to the cosmic merriment.

Our two-day head music happening was held over the weekend of 23 + 24 September 2016 within the warehouses and recesses of Camp and Furnace, Blade Factory and District in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle. An expanded PZYK Gallery and outside Village area – which were successfully introduced in 2014 – joined our trademark world of scintillating artist curation from across the PZYK cosmos, DJs, label curations, installations and audiovisual explorations.
The bumper line-up (see above) included a slew of mouthwatering morsels taking in an enthralling Musings In Drone programme – featuring conversations with Steve Davis, Will Carruthers, Pete Fowler and Super Furry Animals’ Huw Bunford – a DJ bill including Cherrystones, Andy Votel and DJ Fitz, and a whole slew of other late-night goings on.

Visual delights were packed in as well, crowned by the returning immersive AV installation PZYK PRYZM, plus an exclusive new virtual reality programme presented in association with Arts Council England. The festival’s own PZYK Cinema returned again, this time in partnership with FACT and Liverpool Biennial. And alongside it all was World Of Psychedelic Wax Wonders, a pop-up record store run by Dig Vinyl.

All this came amongst the most complete bill of contemporary psych music anywhere in 2016, headed up by iconic Welsh psych trailblazers SUPER FURRY ANIMALS on Friday, and the wondrously dextrous motorik dreamweavers THE HORRORS on Saturday. We were delighted to be joined by some of our favourite labels too: Guruguru Brain and La Souterraine hosted showcases on Friday 23, and the first ever UK performance of Pure Phase Ensemble 4 landed in Furnace on Saturday 24, featuring Mark Gardener.

Embrace the drone.
